Sinwar: Gaza conflict is just an exercise in what will happen if Israel violates Al-Aqsa

Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar told Palestinian journalists that fighting between Hamas and Israel could resume if the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is “violated”.

“The occupation must know – Al-Aqsa has men who will defend it,” Sinwar said.

The unrest and Israeli police raids on the Temple Mount Mosque compound in early May preceded Hamas’ rocket barrage on Israeli towns and villages that sparked the 11-day conflict.

“What happened is just an exercise in finding out what will happen if Israel violates the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” Sinwar said.

He also praises the Arab Israeli riots in which Jewish Israelis and their property have been attacked in recent weeks. He says there are “10,000 suicide bombers in Israel” ready to respond to any Israeli “violation” in Jerusalem.

He says Arab Israelis “have proven that the so-called ‘Israelification’ – the attempt to turn them into Israeli citizens rather than Palestinians – and ‘coexistence’ has fallen once and for all,” Sinwar says.

Sinwar also rejects an Israeli operation to bomb Hamas’ underground tunnel network, before which Israel tried to convince Hamas that its ground forces were entering Gaza in order to send its men into the tunnels.

“It was clear to our military intelligence that this was a deception and that there had been no ground invasion,” Sinwar said.
