VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 25, 2021 / CNW / – Minerva Intelligence Inc. (TSXV: MVAI) (“Minerva” or the “Company”), an artificial intelligence company focused on knowledge engineering, in partnership with 4DM Inc. (“4DM”), is pleased to announce the signing of a contract with Natural Resources Canada (“NRCan”) to design an updated Canadian Hydrographic Data Model to improve essential water resources information. This project will mark the first major update to the National Hydro Network (“NHN”) since 2004, as outlined in NRCan’s public call for proposals.
The National Hydro Network is the only pan-Canadian geospatial data product that details From Canada inland surface waters. Although the original implementation of the RHN was designed to support a variety of scientific and technical applications, it became evident that a significant gap existed between the intent of the product and the needs of the users. With this in mind, NRCan began to regularly collect stakeholder feedback and sought expertise to complete this engagement process and overhaul the data model, which resulted in a recently awarded contract to Minerva with 4DM.
“NRCan is pleased to retain the services of Minerva Intelligence to update the national hydroelectric grid,” said Eric Loubier, Director General of the Canada Center for Mapping and Earth Observation. “This key core geospatial data product describes From Canada inland surface waters and underpins many applications that help Canadians manage and monitor freshwater, drinking water supplies, watershed levels or flooding. “
With a deep understanding of geospatial data standards and water-related software applications, Minerva and its partner 4DM are uniquely positioned to design the new RHN data model. By applying the principles of knowledge engineering, the team will generate an effective data model that can be easily applied to a variety of technical applications nationwide.
“Designing the data model in a logically consistent manner will allow NRCan to deliver a higher value data product to its diverse user groups,” said the head of the natural hazards section of Minerva, Gioachino Roberti. “By adopting modern geospatial data standards and focusing on user needs, the RHN data model will be plug-and-play for modern data analysis and tools such as AI algorithms and sensors. IoT for flood risk analysis and environmental data. ” Steven McArdle, President of 4DM, added: “The modernization of the RHN data model for the water resources community of practice will lead to improvements in hydrotechnical modeling and intelligence-based systems such as water forecasting tools. floods to improve our knowledge of the flood situation.
Minerva (in partnership with Ebbwater Consulting) is currently completing a project to create a National Flood Risk Data Layer, which is the largest flood risk database ever compiled for Canada. The successful harmonization of Canadian flood data into a single standard is not only a testament to Minerva’s superior knowledge engineering approach and software tools, but, more importantly, NRCan’s determination to address the challenges associated with it. at the risk of flooding Canada.
The importance of this contract award was not lost on the CEO of Minerva Scott tillman. “This new engagement with NRCan further highlights that Minerva’s unique approach to geospatial data modeling can be applied effectively in multiple areas,” said Tillman. “We are delighted to partner with 4DM to provide a new hydroelectric network that will provide endless possibilities for the public to access and analyze data on Canada’s water resources.
